After sketching for a couple hours with a dried out pen I came into the packed up studio to find a new pen.
I picked up a Sakura Professional Brush Pen FB and started to scribble a couple lines on a piece of newsprint that was sitting on the cutting table.
The pen felt great on the newsprint and I doodled a face.
I looked to my right and saw a small pile of collage papers—gel plate prints I hadn’t filed away yet. Something about the 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of pink paper said embroidered jacket to me.
I cut and pasted it all together across the journal’s gutter (this journal is turned so the head and tail are at the right and left).
Less than five minutes of effort, including the cutting and pasting. It makes me smile to see it.
We need to stay alert to these moments—when one thing leads to another.
Take the moment. Get it done now.
It isn’t about creating something perfect. It’s about keeping the creativity moving, searching, playing, and learning: all so we are ready for the next moment.
I left with the new pen in hand and went into another room to draw for another two hours. Something unrelated, but in every way, totally connected.
